$Benoit Mandelbrot pioneered fractal geometry. He demonstrated that shapes - such as coastlines, clouds, and snowflakes - are INFINITELY COMPLEX. The smallest detail can be magnified to reveal even more detail, ad infinitum. The technical term is “infinite complexity.” (That’s A LOT more than duality, for those keeping tabs at home). Fractal geometry is the mathematical equivalent of what theologians call the “incomprehensibility of God.” As Mark Batterson says: “Just when we think we have God figured out, we discover a new dimension of His kaleidoscopic personality.” When we can’t figure out all that God is up to in our lives, not only is that okay, it portends more intriguing character attributes into which we have yet to adventure! The Psalmist said that God’s greatness is unsearchable. When we do like David and “magnify” the Lord, the details that comprise His personality become so complex that we can never get to the bottom of it. God is like Narnia: you can understand Him as a child...but as an adult you continuously have those “aha! moments” when you realize He has all these layers to peel back for those who want to go deeper that you didn’t notice during a more simplistic approach. Resistance is real, and it’s no small feat to stay in your chair and do the work. Making art is not for the faint of heart. But so king as you don’t express yourself, you’ll be frustrated and depressed and unfulfilled. Few things pull you out of nihilism faster than EX NIHILO: creating something out of nothing.

Before you think you’re NOT the creative type, thing again chump. Some people divide the world up into banal binaries: numbers people and creative types. I say this with all due disrespect, but that is rubbish. It takes loads of creativity to be, say, an accountant - which requires organizing with a spreadsheet and solving number problems with ingenuity, strategizing, and innovation! People who wear ties to work are no less creative than guys who have pony tails and go barefoot to be one with the soil. We are all artisan souls. We are each of us creators made in the image of our Maker, so create we must! 🏙 @marked_ministry
